I Get To Vote

I just received my mailing from Marquette allowing me to go on-line and vote for the new mascot name. What a sham!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I attended MU, we weren't as politically correct as we are now. It is so sad to see the Board and Administration again trying to jam an identity down our throats that the strong majority do not want. It is a repeat of the whole mid-90's fiasco when the name was selected before the students had an opportunity to vote. Now we are given a list of names to choose from without being given the choice of a truly free election. How sad that our Board and Administrators don't really want the name to reflect the true choice of students and alumni. I expect more from my university - my Marquette.

Hot off the presses.....5/13/2005....Milwaukee, Wisconsin - USA

In a hurried press conference this morning, it was announced that the Great Lakes Inter Tribal Native American Council has offered Marquette University an undisclosed amount of money for naming rights for the University's athletic teams. Spokespersons for the Marquette Board of Directors and the University Administration confirmed that the amount was substantial. A person familiar with the negotiations indicated that Marquette students and alumni will be given the opportunity to choose from a list of names. She indicated that choices would include the Marquette Slots, the Marquette Black Jacks, the Marquette Pokers and the Marquette Casinos. A call to the Great Lakes Tribes was not returned.
